Hazrat Sayyiduna Abu Darda (RA) narrates that it was asked from the Mercy to the Worlds, the Embodiment of Light, the Honored Messenger, the Source of Generosity (PBUH), "What is the limit of knowledge, upon reaching which a person can be considered a scholar?" The Prophet (PBUH) replied, "Whoever memorizes forty Hadith related to the religious matters of my Ummah, Allah (Almighty) will raise him as a jurist (Faqih), and on the Day of Judgment, I will be his intercessor and witness." (Mishkat al-Masabih, Book of Knowledge, Chapter 3, Hadith 258, Volume 2, Page 68)
